During a recent stopover in North Devon, we decided to take the ‘long’ way home and head back to the south coast via Bampton. For many years we had intended to visit The Swan at Bampton and on previous attempts, we have been unable to get a table due to its popularity. So, we were pleased to find that they were able to fit us in for lunch one Saturday afternoon.
The menu at The Swan, Bampton, is a classic mix of traditional plates with a contemporary twist. Starters included Chicken Liver Parfait, Scallops and Soused Herring; main dishes took the form of Steak, Ale & Kidney Suet Pudding, Pork Belly and Exmoor Lamb.
Patron, Paul Berry, soon introduced himself during our visit and it was great to meet such an enthusiastic and passionate landlord. Meanwhile, his wife Donna was hard at work in the kitchen as Head Chef.
